"The churches in this town are just ... dead," Eileen said. Eileen comes to our church. And she's right.
You know what happens in church? God is present in a way he's not anywhere else. The One who upholds the universe is in the room. And we yawn and drowse and mumble through our songs. Pastors (looking at you, me) think the focus is on themselves rather than on the Lord. It's boring. There's no passion. It's like make-believe. Maybe it is for a lot of us.
What if we took it seriously? What if our Lord's day gatherings were weekly turning points in history. THEY ARE!
I wrote this song for congregational singing to put a little fire in our bellies. And when you prepare for the service on Sunday, remember this: you're going to meet God and be blessed with increased power to ransack Hell. That's what you're going to do. Better catch the vision.
"I Will Build My Church"
“I will build my church,”
The Lord professed with power.
Now if our hearts we search,
Will we see in this hour
That we believe our Master’s words,
That he will bring to pass
His Great Commission at last?
“Against my church the gates
Of Hell shall not prevail.”
So why are we afraid?
Why do we not assail
The fortresses of Satan’s horde
That we so easily see,
If we not cowards be?
Refrain
Hosanna! The conquering King’s been sighted.
He’s harrowed all of Hell and ris’n again.
Hosanna! To him we are united,
And with His power the church shall now contend.
If we would save our lives,
Then will we lose them yet.
But where God’s Spirit strives
No soul can long forget
The glory of that coming day
When we from death return.
For this our hearts must burn!
Refrain.
